Place Cont'd

I received The Art of Princess and the Frog in the mail today (Christmas $!) and it's incredible. Virtually every piece of art in the book is digital (save for a little graphite here and there on character sketches), and that's okay. The stuff is so gorgeous, and a lot of the beauty in the simpler pieces has to do with how they manipulated the pieces to make them look like traditional media. They're just that good.
I am especially impressed with the backgrounds (which take up a good 80% of the book). So inspired, I wanted to make some digital speed-painting concept art too:

Ballroom/music room of Quent's mansion.

Deck of the Nautilus.

Also, doodle of Professor Layton. My little sister got "Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box" for Christmas and is so kind as to let me borrow it : ).

travel and sketches

I'm not sure what it is about these kinds of car rides, but I find them very inspiring.
All kinds of inspiring. Lately, there is something about the landscape. Actually, lately there is something about place. I've always preferred drawing people, but there's something about place that is mentally and spiritually soothing. Sometimes they take memories and wash them with imagination and form them into this picturesque, comfortable experience.
Some places are the opposite of that. But either way, they radiate something, and it's very something very perpetual and strong.

And some other sketchbook sketches.
